Modern Nursery Ideas
Sunny Days

yellow nursery modern color colour gender neutral
It’s impossible to have a bad day in the corner of this room; there’s something so lovely about the mood. The golden yellow walls are so vibrant yet not overbearing. They’re complimented by the playful animal trim on the curtains, toys and books. It’s so crisp and so warm; just like a summer morning full of promise!

Baby Nursery Decor (Part Four)

By now you know what mood you wish to create. You know how much you’re able to spend. It’s now time to address the function of the room; the nursery is a place for your baby to sleep, be changed and to be fed. Essential furnishings include the cot, change table, storage, window coverings and a comfortable chair for feeding time. For all items, the most critical aspect to consider is safety, as 20 percent of injuries to children in their first years involve nursery furniture and equipment.

Cot
It is advised that you buy a new cot, rather than second-hand for a number of reasons. Firstly to ensure it meets safety standards (Australian Cot Standard AS 2172 for Australia), can be fixed under warranty, and comes with instructions on how to use them safely and correctly.

Safety features to look for:
• Minimum spaces between bars of 50mm and maximum of 85mm
• No protrusion hazards
• No lead based paints
• No entrapment hazards
• Devices to stop the cot moving for example wheel locks or only two wheels
• Instructions on recommended mattress size

An additional feature you may desire is for the cot to grow with your child, that is, to transform into a junior bed.

The cot should be placed at a distance from windows and drapes, power points and heaters. Avoid hanging items on, above or near the cot. Never use strings to hang any object, such as a mobile, toy or a diaper bag, on or near your cot. Keep the cot free of clutter. For more information on safe sleeping see SIDS.

Change Table
This table makes changing diapers safe, easy and hassle-free. It also should store all your changing needs including diapers, changing pads, washcloths and lotions.

Your change table should have:
• Roll-off protection, such as raised edges
• Waist strap
• No gaps that could injure fingers or toes

Blinds and Curtains
Children can harm themselves with looped cords so they should be removed or kept out of reach.
